I Netflixed the original, first Julia Child TV show (”the French Chef”) out of Boston Public TV from way back in the day.
She’s Black and White! She spills stuff all over the place! She tries to flip a potato pancake and it lands on the stove! She sweats like a pig! She has man hands!
And I love her.
Can you imagine the dark days of 1962 when most Americans were eating nothing but cheeseburgers and this crazy farm-house broad comes on the tube with Gratin and diced Frenchy this and that?
Minds must have been blown.
Julia Child drank (a lot of) red wine, covered potatoes with butter and cream and lived to be 91. She is an example for us all.
Julia’s birthday is August 15th. I’m proposing on that day, every year, we celebrate this woman who freed us from our colonist cuisine by drinking a bottle of wine and eating something with cream and cheese in it.
Julia Child Day, August 15th. Mark your calendars.
