I recently finished “Mostly Harmless“, the last and fifth book in the inaccurately named “Hitchhiker’s trilogy“.
The books are the best nerd humor around. They manage to take some honest to goodness science fiction and turn it on its ear — simultaneously poking fun, earnestly indulging in, and parodying the genre.
That said, the last book is bleak. Bleak, bleak, bleaky McBleak, bleak.
If Douglas Adams were alive today, I’d write him an angry letter.
To be fair, the author was going through a rough patch in his life when he wrote “Mostly Harmless” — so his psycological state is mirrored by the book
