Bits and pieces

I don’t make new year’s resolutions, but I do want to be a better blogger-ator this year.

MoleskineI’d like to get back up to my ‘early days’ level of output, so I’m going to schedule myself a little blog time on a regular type basis. A week or three ago I saw a blurb fly by my RSS feed at work, maybe it was here, maybe it was here, I don’t remember. The gist of the article was to go ahead and schedule a meeting for yourself once a day to spend a little quality time alone with your notebook. Because hey, every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don’t plan it, don’t wait for it, just… let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men’s store, a catnap in your office chair, or… two cups of good, hot, black coffee (with plenty of cream and sugar).

I’ve set a recurring meeting every day (at work) for 11 am. I’ve managed to actually go for a coffee and scribble some thoughts down exactly once in two weeks. That is one more time than I probably would have done so otherwise, so I’m declaring victory.

I have a couple of recipes floating around for BluePlate which I haven’t added yet, and I’ve been meaning to show off a couple of things I’ve learned about the Zend PHP framework (which has taken 75% of the suck out of PHP development). All of these things (and moreâ„¢) are languishing in the back of my head, never to be seen.

So I think Wednesdays are the new blog days. Things are quiet at home in the evening – I can get home from the office, mix up a martini, and scribble out some words. It’s a perfect plan.
