I have not run into this problem, no. It doesn't appear that mcrypt is available in the default 10.6 PHP installation - there are some good instructions for setting it up from source here: http://michaelgracie.com/2009/09/23/plugging-mcrypt-into-php-on-mac-os-x-snow-leopard-10.6.1/

Followed instructions and displayed phpInfo and was able to start/stop MySql 64 bit server.

When I start up phpMyAdmin, I get an error message to the effect that "mcrypt could not be loaded ... check php configuration."

In looking on the entropy.ch forum, users are also posting about this issue.

I wondered whether this was a problem you encountered and how it was solved.

Thanks ... John

PDO drivers for SqLite seem to be included by default, but don't show up in the config string (they appear listed when I call php_info) - so I assume it's compiled in as part of the base PDO package - or the Apple binary has it included and the configure string is inaccurate (somehow maybe)

I'm not a fan of compiling stuff from source when there's an installer available. I'm not a systems administrator, nor do I wish to be.

If you don't want to muck about with too much under the hood, there are some pre-built options that work pretty well on Mac OS X:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-macosx.html
http://www.zend.com/en/products/server-ce/downloads

Both of these tools create an apache/PHP/mysql installation on your hard drive in a standard user accessible folder that you can start and stop with a control panel.
You may find that the internal web sharing and xampp will not run at the same time - so turn off web sharing if you're developing with xampp. Zend Server runs it's server on a custom port, so there's not a conflict.

good info here ... thanks ... I assume that the PDO drivers are not included for SQLite or Postgres since they are not on the list ?

I am intimidated by the tutorials I have read on compiling PHP and would welcome your suggestion as to the best reference for doing this.

Thanks .... John
