This week at work I migrated a number of virtual machines from VMWare Fusion (boo hiss) to VirtualBox (yay!). We use VMs to simulate our production environment for development and for me in particular to test UI in various browser and OS configurations.

After I set up my local copy of Windows 7 and updated to IE 9, I had a sudden epiphany. I don’t have to run a copy of Windows XP any more. No one supports IE 6 any longer, and IE 7 can (almost always) be simulated with IE 9′s developer tools.

With IE 7 and 8 usage dropping like a rock, web development is going to get all easy. Darn kids. Get off my lawn.

The times, they are changing
